On Enter Flash News: 005 HarlemLIVE

The Award ceremony wasn't just about prizes or winning. It was saying goodbye to some great people and an extraordinary summer . It was the refection of what the students became. It was the hard work and accomplishments that the timid could only dream of. The students took this Media challenge to win and from Harlem Live they received lessons in life that no trophy or prize could ever give them. The whole summer came down to these moments. Everyone had the same question. Who was this seasons number one team? Before I tell you the end I want to tell you how it all began.

This summer was no less than unforgettable. There was never a dull moment. It wasn't dram free but all the students came out of this program looking to pass the limits. Every ones eyes were opened to new experiences that made this summer one to write down in there history books. These Kids took the rudder of destiny and guided themselves to a better future. They weren't perpetuating the stereotypes of the media, They took Harlem Live as there medium to portray themselves as write, editors, and multi-media Titan. Some of the students came to this program as just another job, or paycheck. They got hell of a lot more and when I hear the cynics talk about there is no hope for the future I laugh because they haven't seen the talent that will run laps around them. Who would of thought that the next leaders of the nation emerged from a basement in Harlem. In time these students in the basement will be what the next generation will want to be based off.

This is not were the story ends. this is the moment you all have been waiting for. who is this year's Media challenge winner? Team Ambush, they put there hearts and souls into this competition. No student left that night empty handed. The students will be the next alumni to lead the publication to new highs. As we all know awards are great but theirs nothing like some good food. There was no peanut butter and to be found. Everyone had a splendid evening... Rosa never got that spa coupon but she came to the ceremony in a limo and dress that Cinderella would smash pumpkins about. This season was unforgettable and I think that next will just get better.

It's been a while

I know it's been about a month since you guys heard from me. Since I left HarlemLive and got back to Georgia, I've had a lot of stuff to deal with as far as family and moving and getting ready for another year of classes at UGA...but that's no excuse for not keeping in better touch with the coolest group of people I ever had the priveledge of working around.

Anyways, I started reading the blogs and watching all the videos, and DAAYYUM you guys got competetive. I wish I could have been there for all the presentations, the awards ceremony and all the trips ya'll took. Somebody PLEASE tell me how ya'll were able to turn Stephanie into a public speaker...And why in the world is Dushawn still point leader?! Somebody needs to take him down. It amazes me how just one month can turn ambition and hard work into real leadership and professionalism. I know some of it had to do with the guidance and motivation from Richard, Shem and Gisely, but everybody must have went way above and beyond to make it this far. I still can't believe that when I show people the website and talk about HarlemLive and all of its accomplishments, I get to say "I was a part of that".

P.S.
The new webpage looks amazing. So does Kennequa's Zohan movie review. Is Charisma still acting goofy?

TEAM AMBUSH WON !!!!

Congrats to all the other teams, you guys did awesome aswell. Team ambush won and im very proud of that....

Last Presentation

Yesterday I went to 525 west 120th street to the Harlem Live presentation to find out that it was on 40th street between 7th and 8th. I was so mad because it was raining but luckily Savasia was on aim. When I arrived at the last presentation, I was nervous because I thought that I had to present a speech in front of the audience of people and judges. To find out that it was really an award ceremony relieved me, so I sat back and enjoyed the show. Everyones teem won something, wether it was an award or an technical device. I was happy because I really gained something from coming to Harlem Live and to look at my teem and to reminisce about how we started off was cool. Every one looked so nice as far as attire but Shakoya did an excellent job as the show host. I would have loved to won something last night but I knew deep down inside that I slacked my last week. I would like to come back the following year to have as much fun as I did this year.

Oh Em Frinking Geee

Yesterday was such a nerve stomper for me. I was so close to catching a heart attack since my heart was beating so fast. I have never been such a nervous reck, and yet I felt comfortable. It seems to me, that in a way the pressure brought out a side of me thats all natural. All the words that were spoked spewed out of my mouth and were as a powerful as the Niagra, yet smooth and calm as the Mississippi. Of course i was aware of what I was saying, but then gain I wasn't. Yet as all these words formulated and presented themselves before the judges, I sat behind those words and felt as id I were portraying myself to be this cocky self-centered know it all. This surely wasn't my intetention at all, but hopefully my peers got a wind of that.

ABC trip

Hey everybody i just got home, and i had such a long and busy day. I got to work at like 9:45am, so i signed in as 10am. I knew we were going on a media site visit, and i realli wanted to go. So, a group of about 11 of us came and got on the 3 train and took it to 72nd to tranfer to the 1 train. We got off the next stop which was 66th. When we go out the train the building was right there. I knew it was the building because there was a BIG sign that said ABC. When we got there we had to wait about 10 mins for the tour guide to come. The tour guides name was Sandra, and she was realli kool. she gave us a lot of interesting facts!! we got to see the actual news people while the shot 12pm news!!We were right behind the camera, we saw the weather station and we saw the lady prepareing her slide show for her segment in the show. We went around the entire station, it was alot different than when we went to CNN. For one, they did feed us!..lol.... but there were less studios because most of their shows are taped outside and then sent to the ABC station. I thought it was realli kool that we got to see how the shows we watch are made. till nest time!!..VaDa

Today we went to the ABC studio on 60 something street. We waited for a good minute until the Vanessa and Sandra came down to take us on our tour. First we went into the news room where all the assignments go. We were talking and all of the sudden Ken Rosato comes in to do his commercial news brief. Charisma was happy he had an orange tie, but he said it was Tangerine. Then we went where the weather forecast info gos. Then we went to the control room and went down to the live news show to see ken rosato and some other girl (i forgot her name). Then Kumasi came (she look so beautiful) and then we took some pics with ken. He's funny. Then we i'm about to leave SADE BADERINWA comes in. SHE LOOKS DUMMMB GOOD. I took a picture of her (thanks charisma). so yea. it was a good experience.

another day

Well another day in harlem live. Today i went with Kennequa around 125 looking for POs. We got a few people but they didn't give us the answer that we wanted. The questions that we were asking were about the presidential elections and the role of youth. When we asked a few people about the elections we got some weird answers. We asked some lady about what sh thinks about Obama and she started talking about her apartment and how her super won't fix her door and how she got problems in her house. Then we asked some guy about what he thinks about the elections then he started talking about Kenya and how Obama was going to make a change in Kenya. THen we saw a guy dancung on tall sticks so we decided to record him and thats about it.

yup

Yeah so i wrote this blog late so. Yesterday august 4, 2008 my team went out to get interviews for our half an hour show. All we did was that we went around 125 asking people questions about the presidential elections and the role of youth in the elections. We got few people we need to go out to get more people and i hope we try to ask young people about how they feel about the presidential elections. So yesterday its was really hot and we had to walk around asking people. Also yesterday we had Shelise to help us. She taught me how to black track. Black Tracking pretty much is when you record darkness for about ten seconds so that way when you edit it will help you. I was handing out Fliers, Doris was camera woman, Fatima was reporter and Shelise was our helper. yup thats about it.

The Today Show

Today I went to the today show with Hoda Kotb and Kath Lee Gifford. This media site visit was wayyyyy better than the CNN site visit. We entered the NBC building.  It was so nice. The had some Roman, Greek influenced arts on the walls and ceiling. Then we got our visitors pass and went on with our business. We first went to the green room (which wasn't really green, it was white) where all guest appearing on the Today Show wait to be aired. We stayed there until Hoda came and called us. We kept hearing "three minutes till billboard", and countdowns and stuff. Then we went to the studio set and stood on the side. I'm just thinking we are just looking at the live broadcast, and all of the sudden i see people moving and waving around me and when i turn to the screen, THERE I AM ON TELEVISION. It was sooo kewl. People outside were so jealous of us. And Rev RUn was also on the show with Justine. We met them and took pics with them. Then we kept switching rooms and floors. Then we went to a room where a person took our photo and a minute later we are already on the MSNBC website. That S*** was so fast. Then we went to the conference room and had a meeting and talk with Justin, an intern, producer for dateline, and the vice president of NBC. This was a great experience.

They still got it.

Unfortunately I was not able to come early today but my team still had it. I walked in as soon as their presentation started and i specifcally was blown away. The little step performance was eye-catching, the music video was hilarious and i liked in general as a bystander and i hope the judges did as well. Now all that is left to do is wait patiently. All that I know is that next week I will be in the presentation and make it better then everyone elses, whether we win or not tonight. FIRST AMENDMENT ALL DAY!!

WALLLETTT!!!

Oh em Freaking Gee... I cannot Believe that i lost my wallet yesterday. It wasn't all that special but it did so happen to contain my weekly unlimited Metro Card!! I only had like 2 dollars in it but the fact that I lost it non the less is what got me mad. That and I had a very special picture of my Girlfriend in it. (no it was not naked). I'm just not the type of person to loose anything, especially not a wallet. The cop I spoke to was of no help what so ever, they made me fill out a form and wait for 20 minutes and then told mei wasted my time because I wasn't old enough. Isn't that just stupid?
