Public Speaking Tuesday Morning 15 July

Today we had a great public speaking class, attended by Francissca, Tamara, Frankie, Shafonda, Michael, Stephanie, Adam, Dushawn, Isis, Christian, Laredo, Dacia, Shaquoya, Tyvon, Chantaysha and Charisma.  We learned about eye contact, volume and questions as methods of engaging the audience.  We learned about being comfortable and not worrying about notes or scripts.  We had a demonstration (yours truly) of the world's worst weatherman, and discussed why it was so bad--and what we could do to make the presentation better.  We talked about keeping PowerPoint visuals simple and illustrative, instead of wordy and distracting.  We learned NOT TO TALK TO THE BOARD!  And lastly, we had fun with improvised speeches, putting volunteers on the spot in front of the group.  Everyone survived, and in fact did very well.
